WordPress.com’s free plan is a great option for beginners who want to jump into the blogging world. Though the free plan has some limitations such as installing any plugin or a custom theme, as nothing in this world comes for free.

We believe that putting social media stuffs on your blog provides better connectivity between your readers and you.

There are lot of themes at WordPress.com that offers you to add social media icons in the widget areas, but others don’t. You need not to worry if your theme doesn’t have this feature, you can easily add social media icons to your widget area.

In this article we will show how to add social media icons to your footer or sidebar rather to say your widget area.

There are lots of ways you can add social media icons in footer or sidebar. But we will be dealing with the easiest method that can be used.

First of all download some social media icons of your choice or you can create your own icons set. Once downloaded or created simply go to MediaAdd New and  upload those icons.

Now go to AppearanceWidgets and add a Text Widget and put the widget at your desired place.

You can also add a title to your widget, and then add these HTML codes to it.

<a href="<strong>[insert your Facebook page link here]</strong>"><img title="Facebook" src="<strong>[insert your Facebook icon URL here]</strong>" alt="Facebook" width="30" height="30" /></a>
<a href="<strong>[insert your Twitter profile link here]</strong>"><img title="Twitter" src="<strong>[insert your Twitter icon URL here]</strong>" alt="Twitter" width="30" height="30" /></a>
<a href="<strong>[insert your Google+ profile link here]</strong>"><img title="Google+" src="<strong>[insert your Google+ icon URL here]</strong>" alt="Google+" width="30" height="30" /></a>
<a href="<strong>[insert your Pinterest profile link here]</strong>"><img title="Pinterest" src="<strong>[insert your Pinterest icon URL here]</strong>" alt="Pinterest" width="30" height="30" /></a>

There’s a widget named Social Media Icons that is present in your widgets repository but we didn’t like those icons (no offense!) and used the above method. If you don’t want to get into some coding then you can go with this widget.
